Texas Instruments OPT3007 Ultra-Thin Ambient Light Sensor (ALS)
Texas Instruments OPT3007 Ultra-Thin Ambient Light Sensor (ALS) measures the intensity of visible light as seen by the human eye as a single-chip lux meter. The device fits into tiny spaces with an ultra-small footprint PicoStar package. The device is enabled to operate with only four pins connected with a fixed addressing scheme, which helps the designer create a bigger opening to the active sensor area. The sensor has a precision spectral response that matches the human eye's photopic response, and with strong infrared (IR) rejection regardless of the light source, the OPT3007 measures the intensity of light as seen by the human eye. When the design requires mounting the sensor under the dark glass, the IR rejection also aids in maintaining high accuracy. The OPT3007, when used with backlight ICs or lighting control systems, generates light-based experiences for humans. The device is a replacement for photodiodes, photoresistors, or lower-performing ambient light sensors. Without manually selecting full-scale ranges, measurements can be made from 0.01 lux up to 83k lux by using the built-in, full-scale setting feature, allowing light measurement over a 23-bit effective dynamic range. Measurements can be either continuous or single-shot, and the digital operation is flexible for system integration. I2C- and SMBus-compatible, the two-wire serial interface is reported through digital output.Features
