Nordic Semiconductor nRF9160 Development Kit

Nordic Semiconductor nRF9160 Development Kit (DK) is an excellent choice for cellular loT development with LTE-M, NB-loT, and GNSS functionality. The kit uses the nRF9160 System-in-Package (SiP). It has a programmable integrated Arm® Cortex®-M33 CPU with Arm TrustZone and Arm CryptoCell security features, so no external host is needed to run your applications. The DK is hardware compatible with the Arduino Uno Revision 3 standard, making it easy to use compatible 3rd-party shields. The DK enables access to all I/O and interfaces via external connectors and has 4 LEDs, 2 buttons, and 2 user-programmable switches.

The nRF9160 DK also has a 4FF SIM card slot and eSIM solder pads for connecting the nRF9160 SiP to a cellular network. The package includes a SIM card from iBasis preloaded with 10MB of data and LTE-M access.

The nRF9160 SiP includes digital and analog interfaces and peripherals for single-device design possibilities.

The board also features an nRF52840 SoC working as a board controller but can also be utilized for BLUETOOTH® Low Energy, ANT, 802.15.4, and 2.4GHz proprietary applications.

The kit supports nRF Connect SDK and uses nRF Connect for VS Code to write code and program/debug using Segger J-Link OB kits.

All necessary modem firmware and application software (nRF Connect SDK) is provided by Nordic to implement a complete cellular loT design. The nRF9160 DK can also utilize the services from nRF Cloud to improve location and do Firmware over the Air (FOTA) updates, device management, and more.
