Analog Devices MAX17301–MAX17303/MAX17311–MAX17313 Fuel Gauges offer a protector and optional SHA-256 authentication for 1-cell lithium-ion/polymer batteries. These devices monitor the battery's voltage, current, and temperature, allowing over/under voltage, overcurrent, short-circuit, over/under temperature, and overcharge protection. Using external high-side N-FETs, the protection features ensure that the lithium-ion/polymer battery operates under safe conditions, prolonging the battery's life.

Battery pack cloning is prevented by integrating the SHA-256 authentication with a 160-bit secret key, allowing each IC to incorporate a unique 64-bit ID. The MAX17301–MAX17303/MAX17311–MAX17313 have excellent fuel-gauge accuracy using a ModelGauge™ m5 algorithm that combines the short-term accuracy and linearity of a coulomb counter with the long-term stability of a voltage-based fuel gauge. Instantaneous maximum battery output power is delivered to the system via the dynamic power functionality without violating the minimum system input voltage.

Access to data and control registers is provided through the Maxim 1-Wire® or 2-wire I2C interface. Maxim Integrated MAX17301–MAX17303/MAX17311–MAX17313 Fuel Gauges are available in a lead-free, 3mm x 3mm 14-pin TDFN and a 1.7mm x 2.5mm 15-bump 0.5mm pitch WLP package.
