Global health events have prompted us to turn to better methods of disinfection and sanitization, resulting in ultraviolet (UV) sterilization products becoming even more relevant in the market. According to Valuates Reports, the global UV disinfection market is projected to reach $3.335 billion (USD) by 2026.
This means an array of choices for design engineers. UV sterilization products range from AC-DC supplies, LED drivers and controllers, lenses, LEDs, thermal substrates, heatsinks, to shunts. Short-wavelength UV-C offers a chemical-free approach to disinfection. UV-C LEDs are compact, efficient, eco-friendly, and create new applications not possible with mercury lamps.
This week’s New Tech Tuesdays spotlights three selected products and suggests how design engineers can apply them to UV sterilization for health and environmental uses.
New Energy LSB1-12G08 UVC Linear LED Modules: Custom design is made easier with these 11-inch linear boards, which are integrated with 12 Luminus XBT-3535 UVC power LEDs. They're ideal for projects aimed at surface sterilization, water disinfection, air purification, skin therapy, food preparation, horticulture, and fluorescence analysis.
Vishay Semiconductors VLMU35CL20-275-120 Ultraviolet C (UVC) LED: This small footprint LED is a ceramic-based low-power device with a silicone lens. The LED exhibits the radiant power of typically 2.5mW at 20mA in a wavelength range of 265nm to 285nm. Applications include sterilization, medical applications, and the sensing of gases, germs, and DNA.
Inolux IN-M3939U1 6-Chip UV-C LED: This surface-mounted LED features six individual chips, which offer a wide range of viewing angles, allowing for a larger sterilization area per module. This LED is designed to deliver short-wave ultraviolet radiation at a wavelength of 265nm to 285nm.
As the world further embraces the need for dependable methods of disinfection and sanitation, design engineers will be looking a diverse selection of UV sterilization products to be developed for multiple uses. The choices are many and varied. These three products are worthy of a look.
