Silicon Labs CP2501 Touchscreen USB bridge ICs

Easily Add USB HID Interfaces to Touchscreen Apps

The Silicon Labs CP2501 programmable touchscreen USB bridge IC connects touchscreen controllers with the host CPU or application processor. Leveraging Silicon Labs’ leadership in high-performance, analog-intensive, mixed-signal ICs, the CP2501 makes it easy to implement your next touchscreen application with industry-standard USB connectivity. The CP2501 USB bridge IC streamlines and accelerates the addition of USB human interface device (HID) interfaces to touchscreen applications through pre-programmed firmware. This Silicon Labs device features an embedded high-performance 8051-compatible MCU with generous non-volatile memory, providing ample headroom for developers to further customize the firmware to communicate with touch-sense ICs while ensuring optimal system performance. The CP2501 is an ideal touchscreen USB bridge solution for electronics products with large touchscreens, such as laptops, tablets and kiosks, and it works with either resistive or capacitive touch-sense ICs. Most touchscreen controllers used in these applications lack USB support, and the CP2501 uniquely addresses this application need.

CP2501 Benefits

Speeds time-to-market with pre-installed communication software – The CP2501’s on-chip USB interface firmware enables easy USB implementation, minimizing the need for programming expertise in USB interface development.

  • Pre-programmed with easy-to-use system firmware for USB communication and interfaces to touch modules using UART, IIC or SPI
  • Windows 7 HID touch interface compliant

Reduces host CPU processing overhead – The CP2501’s integrated 8051-compatible MCU reduces host system cost and complexity and enhances overall system performance.

  • The high-performance 48 MHz MCU offloads filtering and finger/gesture algorithms from the host CPU or from the sensor ICs
  • 16 GPIO pins for LED control and/or haptics control, saving precious sensor pins as well as improving response time by off loading these control tasks from the host CPU

Simplifies touchscreen development with easy-to-use configuration wizard – The CP2501 is supported by GUI-based development tools for quick project development and parameter setting.

  • Enables developers to easily create the firmware project, customize the USB parameters and generate USB HID touchscreen descriptors
  • Pre-programmed USB bootloader enables easy in-system firmware updates
