Burst mode operation and device very low consumption helps to meet the standby energy saving regulations. The quasi-resonant feature reduces EMI filter cost. Brown-out and brown-in function protects the switch mode power supply when the rectified input voltage level is below the normal minimum level specified for the system. The high voltage start-up circuit is embedded in the device.

STMicroelectronics VIPer35 Quasi-Resonat High Performance Off-Line High Voltage Converter integrates an 800V rugged power MOSFET with a quasi-resonant current mode PWM control. It has very low consumption and operates in burst mode under light load conditions and meets severe energy saving standards.

The VIPer35 features brown-out, enabling the IC to set the switch-off and switch-on threshold independently of each other. The quasi-resonant operation reduces the level of EMI and the quantity of components in the application and reduces switching losses and improves power conversion efficiency. It features high level protections like output overvoltage, shortcircuit and thermal shutdown with hysteresis. The IC is automatically restarted after the removal of a fault condition.

STMicroelectronics VIPer38 Peak Power High-Voltage Converter smartly integrates an 800V rugged power MOSFET with PWM current-mode control. The power MOSFET allows a very high input Vac to be applied, just limited from its breakdown voltage. This IC is capable of meeting more stringent energy-saving standards as it has very low consumption and operates in burst mode under light load.

The device features an adjustable extra power timer (EPT) that enables the IC to sustain overload conditions for a few seconds.

The integrated HV startup, sense FET and oscillator with jitter allow the advantage of using minimal components in the application.

The device features high-level protections like dual-level OCP, output overvoltage, short-circuit, and thermal shutdown with hysteresis. After the removal of a fault condition, the IC is automatically restarted.

STMicroelectronics VIPer0P Zero-Power Off-Line High Voltage Converter is a high-voltage converter that smartly integrates an 800V avalanche rugged power MOSFET with PWM current-mode control. The power MOSFET with 800V breakdown voltage allows extended input voltage range to be applied and to reduce the size of the DRAIN snubber circuit. This IC is capable of meeting the most stringent energy-saving standards as it has very low consumption and operates in pulse frequency modulation under light load. The Zero-Power mode (ZPM) feature enables the IC to work in an idle state, where the system is totally shutdown. An MCU can be easily connected to the IC for smart ZPM management and it can be supplied by the IC itself during the idle state. The design of flyback, buck and buck boost converters is supported.

The STEVAL-ISA191V1 evaluation board implements an isolated flyback double output (5V/1.2A and 12V/0.75A) 15W wide range mains developed for general purpose applications. The core of the application is the VIPer37LE, a new Off-line high Voltage Converter from the VIPerPlus family. The device is a high-voltage converter that intelligently integrates an 800V rugged power MOSFET with PWM current-mode control.

The evaluation board features a small size, minimal BOM, high efficiency and low standby consumption. Extremely low consumption under no-load conditions is ensured thanks to burst mode operation that reduces the average switching frequency and minimizes all frequency related losses.
