STMicroelectronics STLUX385A STLUX™ Digital LED Lighting Driver is tailored for lighting and power conversion. The STLUX385A integrates DALI (digital addressable lighting interface) for remote control and monitoring and has been successfully integrated in a wide range of architectures and applications.

The STLUX digital controllers are the world's first programmable controllers specifically optimized for lighting applications. The innovative SMED (state machine, event-driven) digital technology and the integrated microcontroller make STLUX easily programmable and versatile. It can be configured with application-specific algorithms to optimize the overall system efficiency, enabling high-performance and cost-effective lighting design.

More About SMED
SMED is a hardware state machine triggered by internal or external events. In power-supply applications, for example, a SMED can close the regulation loop and automatically switch off the circuit when it detects an overcurrent or a short circuit, so protecting the circuit. Since SMEDs are embedded, they guarantee an event reaction time shorter than that provided by standard interrupt-driven microprocessors.

STLUX385A Development Environment

A complete development environment is now available to enable designers to design and evaluate applications centered around the STLUX385A digital lighting controller. The environment is made of:

  • STEVAL-ILL068V1 board - hosting the STLUX385A and a USB connector, for connection to a PC to run a terminal utility, plus spare PCB area useful to add, for  example,  an external quartz (optional) or power drivers for the power stages. It gives access to all I/Os on the STLUX385A. The board can be powered using an external supply, through the USB connector or the Single wire interface module SWIM interface.
  • STSW-STLUXSMED01 Graphical User Interface - running on a PC to easily and quickly configure the 6 State Machine Event Driven (SMED) that makes the heart of the STLUX385A

STEVAL385LED4CH Digital 4-LED Demonstration Board

STMicroelectronics STEVAL385LED4CH Digital 4-LED Demonstration Board is a complete and configurable solution to manage four independent high brightness LED channels using the STLUX385A digital controller. The STLUX385A is part of STMicroelectronics' MASTERLUX product family and embeds advanced peripherals tailored to generate high resolution PWM signals (SMED). The STEVAL385LED4CH implements inversed-buck topology to drive each LED channel. The SMED technology integrated in the STLUX385A regulates the LED current, exploiting the fixed-off-time (FOT) principle. Each channel can output current in the range of 250mA to 1A. The number of LEDs, the current and the PWM dimming working point can be set through the command interpreter, accessible via the serial interface. Dimming can also be manually adjusted via the three on-board buttons.
