Netduino 2 is the upgrade of the classic Netduino, an open source electronics platform using the .NET Micro Framework, which combines the ease of high-level coding with the raw features of microcontrollers. Featuring a 32-bit microcontroller (MCU) and a rich development environment, the Netduino 2 is suitable for engineers and hobbyists alike. Netduino 2 has three times the speed (120MHz), 50% more code space (192KB), and many more features than the original Netduino.

The board provides 22 GPIOs with SPI, I²C, 4 UARTs (1 RTS/CTS), 6 PWM, and 6 ADC channels. And it leverages the new Arduino R3 shield format while maintaining 5V tolerance for compatibility with existing shields. Netduino 2 offers event-based programming, multi-threading, line-by-line debugging, breakpoints, and more. It is also pin-compatible with even more Arduino shields than the original, including "Rev C" Arduino shields and higher-current shields. As Netduino is an open source electronics platform, all design files and source code are included.

STMicroelectronics' ARM® Cortex™-M3 Based STM32 F2 Series MCU is built on ST's advanced 90nm NVM process technology with the innovative adaptive real-time memory accelerator (ART Accelerator™) and the multi-layer bus matrix offering an unprecedented price/performance trade-off. These MCUs are characterized by a high degree of integration combining up to 1Mb of Flash memory and up to 128Kb of SRAM with Ethernet MAC, USB 2.0 HS OTG, camera interface, hardware encryption support, and external memory interface. STM's acceleration technology enables these MCUs to achieve up to 150 DMIPS at 120MHz FCPU which is equivalent to zero wait state execution, while keeping the dynamic current consumption at the outstandingly low level of 188µA/MHz.
