Measuring only 14.42 (L) by 12.80 (W), the 78723 series offers the industry’s smallest and slimmest 1.35mm-height micro-SIM card socket. Due to the compact size, the slightly protruding end of a fully inserted micro-SIM card [15.12 (L) by 12.00mm (W)] can be withdrawn easily with the very wide ‘finger area’ on the socket.
The design includes an anti-shorting feature and dual ‘shell-bends’ at the rear connector. The anti-shorting feature prevents shorting using a kinked metal-shell to confine any lateral movements of potentially exposed SIM cards.
Molex’s 1.40mm micro-Sim features raised plastic walls that act as contact barriers to insulate the pads of the inserted SIM card from the metal shell of the socket. The socket also has a card polarization feature to prevent the card from being inserted in the wrong direction, and a detect switch to enable card detection when fully inserted. The round contact terminals provide excellent electrical contact; and the reverse terminal design with gradual lead-in enables smooth card insertion and withdrawal.
