Littelfuse PLED Open LED Protectors
PLED
|
Littelfuse PLED Series Open LED Protectors provide a switching
electronic shunt path when an
LED
in an LED array fails as an open circuit, ensuring that the
entire array of LEDs will continue to function even if a single
LED
in the array doesn't.
PLED Series Open LED Protectors provide higher reliability lighting functions in
applications such as headlights, aircraft, aircraft runway lighting,
roadside warning lights, and more. These
Littelfuse LED protection
devices are compatible with 1, 2, and 3W LEDs that have a
nominal 3V forward characteristic.
Littelfuse PLED
devices are available in a variety of package types,
including QFN and DO-214 surface mount packages, SOT-89, and the small form factor Powermite® package.

PLED 5 QFN
|
Littelfuse PLED5 QFN protector provides three methods of increasing the reliability of LED lighting: - If one of the LEDs in an array fails open, this device provides a substitute electronic path so that the array continues to function - It protects against ESD events up to ± 8 kV for contact discharges and ±15 kV for air discharges per the IEC 61000-4-2 electrostatic immunity standard. - It provides protection in the case of accidental revers battery or power connection. High reliability of lighting functions such as traffic lighting, advertising lighting, and runway lighting demand the use of a device such as the PLED5.
PLED 5 QFN Specific Features
- Reverse Battery / Power Protection
- Surge Capability >24 A (8/20 µS)
- ESD, IEC 61000-4-2, ±8kV contact, ±15 kV air
- Open LED bypass up to 500 mA
- Resets After Power Cycle
- Low Turn-On (Trigger Voltage)
- Ideal for MR16, PAR type lamps

New! - PLED6M
|
Littelfuse PLED6M LED Protector is designed to provide a switching electronic shunt path when an LED in an LED string fails as an open circuit. This ensures that the entire array of LEDs will stay illuminated even if a single LED in a string fails. The PLED6M Series is designed for use with one-watt LEDs, nominally 350mA @ 3V, and the low turn-on voltage of 7.5V (max.) allows for fast switching after an LED opens. Furthermore, the on-state (bypass) voltage of 1.2V (max.) reduces the steady state power dissipation following an LED open failure and is housed in a small form factor Powermite® package.
PLED6M Specific Features
- Electronic shunt/bypass for open LEDs, allowing LED strings to keep functioning, even if one LED in the set fails as an open circuit
- Low profile, small footprint POWERMITE® package provides maximum heat dissipation and greater layout flexibility
- Supports high-brightness, outdoor LED applications where high reliability and low maintenance are required
- Environmentally friendly, RoHS compliant construction
Applications
- Street, subway, runway, and tunnel lighting
- Vehicle headlights
- Roadside warning lights
- Outdoor signage
