Harwin EZ-BoardWare RFI & SMT PCB Hardware

The range of EZ-BoardWare RFI & SMT PCB Hardware products from Harwin are all designed to make production processes easier, and in some cases eliminate extra processes altogether.  These products will increase design flexibility and decrease costs.

New! Harwin EZ-BoardWare EMI/RFI Shield Cans feature 0.3mm shield thickness and are suitable for use with S1711R and S2711R EZ-Shield Clips. These RFI shield cans come in standard 30mm x 20mm, 30mm x 30mm, and 50mm x 25mm sizes.

- Harwin EZ-Shield Clips secure a RFI shield to a PCB thereby removing secondary soldering and easing re-work and maintenance. 
- Harwin EZ-Shield Fingers can be used as grounding contacts with metal frames or shields (ideal for automated placement).
- Harwin EZ-EMI/RFI Shield Cans provide excellent RFI and EMI protection to sensitive circuitry at the PCB level.
- Harwin EZ-Links provide linking and bridging capability between and over tracks, eliminating unnecessary through-holes and PCB layers.

    Harwin EZ-Shield Clips

Sensitive electronic circuits need to be fully protected from extraneous electro - magnetic and radio frequency interference (EMI and RFI). This has typically been achieved by mounting metal shields or 'cans' directly to the PCB to fully shroud the required circuitry. These shields are often attached to the PCB using through-hole soldertails, manually soldered after the main assembly process.

Not only is this time-consuming and costly but also, during initial setup and subsequent maintenance, it is often necessary to access the circuitry and components under the shields. This requires de-soldering operations in often densely populated areas containing highly sensitive components. As a result, there is a high risk of expensive damage occurring.

Harwin 's solution of using shield retaining clips , supplied in industry-standard Tape & Reel packaging, provide a automatic placement method which is soldered using standard SMT placement equipment. The shielding can is then fitted during final assembly within seconds. As it is possible to remove and refit the can a number of times, tuning and rework operations are simplified, and a minimal risk of damage is ensured. Therefore both initial production and rework costs are significantly reduced.

Harwin's EMI / RFI clips are aimed at telecoms base stations, radio communications, data processing and in-car entertainment systems. Previous devices have been successfully used in diverse applications such as the Bowman Military radio project and automotive SatNav/DVD players.

Harwin EZ-BoardWare EMI/RFI Shield Cans provide excellent RFI and EMI protection to sensitive circuitry at the PCB level. These Harwin RFI shield cans feature 0.3mm shield thickness and are suitable for use with S1711R and S2711R EZ-Shield Clips. Harwin EZ-Cable Clips make it possible to tidy cable / wire away on your PCB. The EZ-Cable Clips are placed on the PCB during the manufacturing process. These cable clips are placed using industry standard pick & place machines.

Harwin's EZ-Cable metal clips are physically much smaller than equivalent plastic wire management clips. They are placed directly onto solder pads, thus negating the need to drill retaining holes in the PCB, offering further space and cost savings. More, the new clips are ultra low profile and, unlike the old, bulky plastic clips, they do no protrude through the PCB increasing design flexibility.

Finally, the plastic clips require installation by hand - a time consuming and very costly exercise. These clips eliminate that process by being assembled at the same time as the rest of the SMT components.

Supplied on tape and reel, and fully compatible with automated manufacturing and soldering processes, Harwin's new metal cable clips offer excellent mechanical performance and are available in four different sizes to accommodate a range of wires between 1.0mm and 3.0mm in diameter. Comments Product Manager, Paul Gillam, "Historically, wire management clips have to be assembled to the PCB after component placement which is both time-consuming and expensive. These new metal surface mount clips eliminate secondary assembly processing, provide a secure positive retention to PCB, save space and put less restrictions on the PCB layout."

The new EZ-Cable clips are ideally suited for high-volume commercial and industrial markets as well as consumer electronics applications.
