FCI AirMax VS Connector Family

FCI AirMax VS Hard Metric connector family is comprised of the VS High Power, VS High-Speed, VS2, and VSe connectors. VS connectors are based on a unique connector design that eliminates the need for interleaving shields by using air as a highly efficient dielectric between conductors. VS High Power connectors provide options for the protected receptacle to be on the backplane / midplane or on the daughter card. VS high-speed signal connectors serve to connect compute blade modules, compute blade mezzanine modules, or chassis management modules to a midplane or backplane in a SSI modular blade server chassis. VS2 connectors provide a migration path for Airmax VS for speeds up to 12.5Gb/s fully compliant with IEEE 802.3ap with the flexibility of an open pin field design. VSe connectors provide a migration path for up to 25Gb/s per differential pair with the flexibility of an open pin field design. FCI AirMax VS Hard Metric connector family is ideal for applications including servers, storage devices, industrial, medical, test and measurement.

FCI AirMax VS High Power Connectors

FCI AirMax VS High Power connectors provide options for the protected receptacle to be on the backplane/midplane or on the daughter card. These compact high-power connectors complement the ZipLine and AirMax VS high-speed signal connector offerings. Contacts are flat except for minimal forming at the plug contact's mating interfaces, which enables the use of high conductivity base metal. The unique insulator design includes openings to help air flow around the contacts to improve heat dissipation. These design features contribute to the connectors' higher current-carrying cap. FCI AirMax VS High Power connectors include a range of options with differential pairs/column, column pitches, or column counts, optimized for either 100O or 85O impedance to match channel impedance and reduce loss, halogen-free signal modules, and the availability of power and guide modules to complement the signal connector offering.

FCI AirMax VS high-speed signal connectors serve to connect compute blade modules, compute blade mezzanine modules, or chassis management modules to a midplane or backplane in a SSI modular blade server chassis. The high-speed inter connect channels support industry-standard technologies such as PCI Express Gen 2, Infiniband QDR, 8Gb/s Fibre Channel and Backplane Ethernet. The Server System Infrastructure (SSI) Blade Specifications define mechanical, electrical, and management interfaces for blade server platforms to ensure compatibility and interoperability among compute blade modules, compute blade mezzanine modules, chassis management modules, and midplanes or backplanes from a variety of independent vendors.

FCI AirMax VS2 connectors provide a migration path for Airmax VS for speeds up to 12.5 Gb/s per differential pair with the flexibility of an open pin field design. The connectors are backwards compatible to existing AirMax systems and leverage the VS2 and VSe design features and technology to achieve improved signal integrity and mechanical attributes compared to AirMax VS connectors. Optimization of materials and manufacturing processes further contribute to improved price/performance. The connector utilizes FCI technology for a shield-less design with no metallic plates and closely edge-coupled differential pairs design improvements to yield low loss and crosstalk.

AirMax VSe maintains the open pin field design maximizing pin assignment flexibility and contains no interleaving shields reducing connector weight, cost and PCB routing complexity.
