Bourns® Surge Protection Devices (SPD)

Overview

Bourns® Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) protect sensitive equipment from damage caused by lightning and electrical transient surges. These protective devices integrate discrete circuit protection devices into an assembly or system that provides an enhanced level of functionality and protection.  Based on Bourn's expertise in discrete circuit protection, the SPD product line of includes protective devices for AC systems, DC power systems, signal and data line circuits as well as coaxial networks and CATV. Bourns SPDs are used to protect a wide range of electronic, electrical, data communication and telecommunication equipment.

AC Surge

Bourns AC Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) provide AC protection for front end installations, main switchboards, and sensitive installations without LPS (lightning rods).

The AC Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) product line now includes the Model 1250 Series General Duty AC SPDs with a maximum discharge current rating of 50 kA (8/20 μs) and the  Model 1210 Series Heavy Duty AC SPDs with a maximum discharge current rating of 100 kA (8/20 μs). These DIN Rail mountable AC surge protective devices are designed to be installed close to sensitive equipment downstream from the main circuit breaker. Type 4 SPDs per UL 1449 requirements, these devices are designed for use in Type 2 applications. Both series comply with standards UL 1449 3rd edition and IEC 616343-1.

Bourns® Model 1210 Series Heavy Duty Surge Protective Devices (SPD)
The Bourns® Model 1210 Series features heavy duty Surge Protective Devices (SPD) designed to protect high risk electrical service entrance and branch panels. These SPDs are intended to be installed at the front end of the installation, in the main switchboard, close to sensitive terminals or in installations without LPS (lightning rods).

The Model 1210 Series is a single-pole module that can be configured for both common mode and differential mode protection in single and three phase applications up to 600 V.

Bourns® Model 1250 Series features general duty Surge Protective Devices (SPD) designed to protect high risk electrical service entrance and branch panels. These SPDs are intended to be installed at the front end of the installation, in the main switchboard, close to sensitive terminals or in installations without LPS (lightning rods)

The Model 1250 Series is a single-pole module that can be configured for both common mode and differential mode protection in single and three phase applications up to 480 V.

Bourns® Model 1200TA Terminal Adapter
Bourns® Model 1200TA Terminal Adapter is designed to improve the wiring efficiency of Model 1210 and 1250 Series SPDs. This add-on adapter allows for efficient and safe parallel connections. This method of connection is highly recommended and minimizes voltage drops in parallel connections.

Bourns® Model 1200-BB Series Bus Bar
Bourns® Model 1200-BB Series bus bar accessory provides a quick solution for combining the ground connection on two to four Model 1210 or 1250 Series SPDs. The bus bar is installed at the bottom of the SPD, providing a bridge that connects the individual ground points. After installation of the bus bar, a single ground wire can then be used to complete the installation, saving wiring time.

Bourns® Model 1420 Series DC Power SPDs protect photovoltaic systems operating up to 1200 Vdc. The Model 1420 Series incorporates a hybrid MOV/GDT design to provide an enhanced level of protection and long-term performance. These DIN Rail mountable devices offer a maximum lightning surge current rating of 40 kA (8/20 μs) per pole. The series is recognized per UL 1449 3rd edition and IEC 61643-1.

Bourns® Model 1699 Series Weatherproof/Harsh Environment Surge Protective Devices (SPD)

Bourns® Model 1699 Series Weatherproof/Harsh Environment protect sensitive I/O circuitry from surges of any polarity or magnitude. Principal use is on 4-20 mA control loops and can be used on grounded (+ or -) or ungrounded circuits. Able to survive and protect even from direct lightning strikes to the transmitter ground or field wiring. Automatic recovery after passage of the surge. Long life, high operational reliability. The 1669 Series is used for full weather protection of field transmitters and instrumentation operating on 24-28 V systems.

Bourns® Model 1800 Series DIN Rail Surge Protective Devices (SPD)

Bourns® Model 1800 Series Signal and Dataline Protectors are designed to protect sensitive electronic circuits and components from damaging surge voltages and currents. Their extremely fast response and low clamping voltages make them particularly suitable for the protection of signal and data lines associated with computer, data communication, instrumentation, broadcasting and industrial controls. They may be used directly with EIA standard interfaces RS-232, RS-422, RS-423, RS-485 and with 20 mA and 50 mA instrumentation loops. The Model 1800 Series Signal and Data line Protectors are fast, rugged and capable of protecting against fast rising voltage transients as well as the severe current surges associated with lightning discharges.

Bourns® Model 1965 Series 50 ohm Coaxial Surge Protective Devices (SPD)

The Bourns 1965 Series Coaxial Surge Protector is intended for use with low power VHF and UHF transmitters, 2-way base station transceivers, and receive-only systems. All models provide GDT technology. The 1965 arrester is symmetric and bidirectional. Either end may be used for the input or output. Various power and voltage choices are available - see specifi cations below for proper selection. Available with a choice of connectors.
