BeagleBone Black

BeagleBone Black is the newest member of the BeagleBoard family and is a lower-cost, high-expansion focused BeagleBone, featuring the Sitara AM3358BZCZ100 ARM Cortex-A8 32-Bit RISC microprocessor from Texas Instruments. It is similar to the BeagleBone but with some previous features removed to make way for the excellent new features.

The Beagleboard.org platform has a proven track record of facilitating innovation from concept to market and BeagleBone Black's enhanced feature set enables developers to turn ideas into prototypes more easily than ever. Whether operating standalone or in conjunction with another computer, this new BeagleBone will provide developers easy access to industry standard interfaces and a well-developed ecosystem of software and tools. The original BeagleBone's cape plug-in boards are also compatible with the BeagleBone Black, making easy integration with previous projects yet another advantage.

BeagleBone Capes

BeagleBone Capes are expansion boards that can be stacked onto the BeagleBone Community Development Board, up to four at a time. BeagleBone Capes fall into several categories -- communication capes, display and interface, sensor and control, and prototype and miscellaneous capes. The communications capes include the RF Cape, Wi-Fi Capes, CANBus Cape, RS232 Cape, and the RS485 Cape. Modules in the display and interface category are LCD Capes, DVI-D Capes, and the Camera Cape. The sensor and control category includes the Motor Capes, Ninja Cape, Weather Cape, and the Audio Cape. And the prototype and miscellaneous capes are the Breadboard Cape, Breakout Cape, 3D Printer Cape, and the Battery Cape.

The MikroElektronika Click Shield has two mikroBUS™ sockets that allow users to connect more than 90 different types of click boards to BeagleBone Black. Click Shield also has an EEPROM chip for storing pin configuration data. BeagleBone Click Shield lets users add functionalities like GSM, GPS, WiFi, ZigBee®, Bluetooth®, or thunder detection, proximity sensing, color sensing, and more. The package includes two 2x12 headers and single 1x6 headers.
