Overview

Intel's 45nm Atom Family of processors are based on 45nm process technology. It is an energy efficient device which can execute up to two x86 instructions per cycle, also known as CISC instructions, into simpler internal operations or micro-ops. They can also execute RISC style instructions, prior to execution. The majority of instructions produce one micro-op when translated, with around 4% of instructions used in typical programs producing multiple micro-ops.

The microarchitecture's internal micro-ops can contain both a memory load and a memory store in connection with an ALU operation, making them more powerful than the micro-ops used in previous designs. This enables excellent performance with only two integer ALUs, and without any instruction reordering, speculative execution, or register renaming.

Intel Z5xx Series Atom™ Processors are built on a new 45-nanometer Hi-k low power micro-architecture and 45nm process technology—the first generation of low-power IA-32 micro-architecture specially designed for the new class of Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs). These processors support the Intel System Controller Hub (Intel SCH), a single-chip component designed for low-power operation.

Intel E6xx Series Atom™ Processors are next-generation Intel architecture (IA) CPUs for the small form factor, ultra low power embedded segments based on a new architecture partitioning. The new architecture partitioning integrates the 3D graphics engine, memory controller, and other blocks with the IA CPU core.

The E6xx Series processors depart from the proprietary chip set interfaces used by other IA CPUs to an open-standard, industry-proven PCI-Express v1.0 interface. This allows the processors to be paired with customer-defined IOH, ASIC, FPGA, and off-the-shelf discrete components, providing utmost flexibility in I/O solutions. This is important for deeply embedded applications, in which I/Os differ from one application to another, unlike traditional PC-like applications.

Intel® Atom™ D4xx/D5xx/N4xx Processors

Formerly known as Pineview

Intel's Atom D4xx/D5xx/N4xx Processors are built on 45-nanometer Hi-K process technology. These processors are designed for a two-chip platform as opposed to the traditional three-chip platforms (processor, GMCH, and ICH). The two-chip platform consists of a processor and the chipset and enables higher performance, lower cost, easier validation, and improved x-y footprint. Features include primary 32-kB instructions cache and 24-kB write-back data cache on the die, 512-kB, and 8-way L2 cache on die. These processors support L2 dynamic cache sizing, IA 32-bit and Intel 64 architecture, Intel Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 and 3 (SSE2 and SSE3) and Supplemental Streaming SIMD Extensions 3 (SSSE3), thermal management via Intel Thermal Monitor 1 (TM1) and Intel Thermal Monitor 1 (TM2), enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology, and Execute Disable Bit support for enhanced security.
