Fairchild FOD83xx Optoplanar® Gate Drive Optocouplers

Fairchild FOD83xx Optoplanar® Gate Drive Optocouplers are advanced 2.5A output current gate drive optocouplers, capable of driving medium power IGBT/MOSFETs. These optocouplers employ Fairchild's patented coplanar packaging technology, Optoplanar®, and optimized IC design. The FOD83xx optocouplers also provide an extended industrial temperature range of -40 to +100ºC, and are ideally suited for fast switching of power IGBTs and MOSFETs used in industrial inverter applications and high performance power systems.

FOD8316 Optoplanar® IGBT Drive Optocouplers


FOD8316 Optoplanar® IGBT Drive Optocouplers offer critical protection features necessary for preventing fault conditions that lead to destructive thermal runaway of IGBTs. They employ Fairchild's patented coplanar packaging technology, Optoplanar®, and optimized IC design to achieve high noise immunity, characterized by high common mode rejection and power supply rejection specifications. These FOD8316 optocouplers each consist of an integrated gate drive optocoupler featuring low RDS(ON) CMOS transistors to drive the IGBT from rail to rail and an integrated high speed isolated feedback for fault sensing. The device is housed in a compact 16-pin small outline plastic package which meets the 8mm creepage and clearance requirements.

FEBFOD8316 Evaluation Board

Fairchild's FEBFOD8316 Evaluation Board with a booster circuit is designed for the evaluation of FOD8316 timing sequence and AC test performance when driving an IGBT power module. The FOD8316 is designed to perform as a stand-alone, optically coupled, gate driver in most applications. This board consists of a FOD8316 component, a non-inverting bipolar (NPN/PNP) totem-pole current buffer, two capacitor loads (10nF / 51nF), as well as connectors and test terminals for power supplies and input signals. The FEDFOD8316 evaluation board allows the user to quickly evaluate the performance of the FOD8316 smart gate driver optocoupler.


Fairchild FOD8318 IGBT Drive Optocouplers


Fairchild's FOD8318 IGBT Drive Optocouplers are an advanced 2.5A output current IGBT drive optocoupler capable of driving most 1200V / 150A IGBTs. They are ideally suited for fast-switching driving of power IGBTs and MOSFETs used in motor control inverter applications and high-performance power systems. It consists of an integrated gate drive optocoupler featuring low RDS(on) CMOS transistors to drive the IGBT from rail to rail and an integrated high-speed isolated feedback for fault sensing. The FOD8318 has an active Miller clamp function to shut off the IGBT during a high dv/dt situation without the need of a negative supply voltage. It offers critical protection features necessary for preventing fault conditions that lead to destructive thermal runaway of IGBTs.

Fairchild FOD8320 Optoplanar® Gate Drive Optocouplers each consist of an aluminum gallium arsenide (AlGaAs) LED optically coupled to an integrated circuit with a high-speed driver for push-pull MOSFET output stage. These FOD8320 optocouplers achieve reliable and high insulation voltage as well as high noise immunity, using Fairchild's Optoplanar® packaging technology and optimized IC design. The optocouplers, each housed in a wide body 5-pin small outline package, offer a compact footprint while allowing for a creepage and clearance distance greater than 10mm and 0.5mm internal insulation distance.
