The Atmel SAM3 Cortex-™-M3 Microcontrollers are based on the high performance 32-bit ARM Cortex™-M3 RISC processor. It operates at a maximum speed of 96 MHz (48 MHz-SAM3N, 64 MHz-SAM3S8/SD8, 84 MHz-SAM3X/A or 96 MHz-SAM3U) up to 512 Kbytes of Flash and up to 100 Kbytes of SRAM. The peripheral set can include a high speed USB device port with embedded transceiver, a high speed MCI for SDIO/MMC, an external bus interface with NAND Flash controller, up to 4xUSARTs, up to 2xTWIs, up to 5xSPIs, as well as 4xPWM timers, 3xgeneral purpose 16-bit timers, an RTC, a 12-bit ADC and a 10-bit ADC. The SAM3N is an entry-level general purpose microcontroller that makes it an ideal starting point to move from 8-/16-bit to 32-bit microcontrollers. The SAM8/SD8 is a medium range general purpose microcontroller with the best ratio in terms of reduced power consumption, processing power and peripheral set. The SAM3X/A and SAM3U are specifically designed to sustain high speed data transfers. It includes a multi-layer bus matrix as well as multiple SRAM banks, PDC and DMA channels that enable them to run tasks in parallel and maximize data throughput.

SAM3A

The Atmel® SAM3A ARM® Cortex™-M3 Flash-based Microcontroller (MCU) features connectivity peripherals including a dual CAN interface and high-speed USB (HS USB) MiniHost and device with on-chip physical layer (PHY). Devices are available in a dual-bank configuration of 256KB and 512KB Flash total and in 100-pin QFP and BGA package options. The architecture is designed to support high-speed data transfers and includes a multi-layer bus matrix plus dual SRAM banks, direct memory access (DMA) channels and peripheral DMA controller (PDC) for applications supporting multi-task operations. The SAM3A series is ideal for networking applications in the industrial embedded market and in home and building automation, smart grids and industrial automation.

SAM3S8/SD8

The Atmel® SAM3S Cortex™ M3 Flash Microcontroller Family integrates features to simplify system design and reduce power consumption down to 2.3 mW at 1 MHz, 1.45mW/MHz at 64 MHz operation and 1.6 uA in backup mode with the RTC running. Inspired by the best-selling SAM7S series, the SAM3S is the ideal migration path to a more powerful and feature-rich MCU.
