Kanaan Excites Indy with Dramatic Finish in 500 Mile Spectacular
Mouser Machine proves its mettle with astonishing pass for the lead
Mouser Electronics, Inc., regarded as a top design engineering resource and global distributor for semiconductors and electronic components, today congratulates champion driver Tony Kanaan for his outstanding third-place finish in the Indianapolis 500, where he drove the No. 11 MOUSER ELECTRONICS/GEICO/KV Racing Technology Chevrolet/Firestone IndyCar to capture a coveted podium position.
The seasoned 37-year-old driver started eighth on the grid of the famous 2.5 mile superspeedway oval track and ran a spectacular race, driving in the lead for seven laps of Sunday's historic 500-mile race. Unfortunately, Kanaan could not hold off drivers Dario Franchitti, who took first place, and Scott Dixon, who won won second place, after an exciting final stretch all the way to the checkered flag.

"Mouser is very pleased with Tony's spectacular third-place win at the Indianapolis 500. Considering his immense talent and love for the sport of racing, we knew he would pull off a Top 5 finish," says Larry Johannes, Mouser Electronics' Vice President of Strategic Marketing. "It was a great race and Tony pushed hard every second of it, never giving up the fight to win. It was a true test of determination, endurance, and talent."
Mouser Electronics first set its sights on an IndyCar sponsorship last year as an innovative way to connect with the industry's top electronic design engineers and as a high-tech platform to showcase its valued supplier partnerships.
Joining Mouser as co-sponsors for the 2012 Izod® IndyCar Series are TTI, Inc, Murata, Molex, TE Connectivity, Phoenix Contact, Littelfuse, KEMET, Ohmite, Hammond, Harwin, ebm-papst, Omron, BIVAR, Fluke, and Amphenol.
"It was an awesome day with a very close finish again," Kanaan said after the race. "It was a beautiful race and I think the fans enjoyed themselves. A third-place finish is not bad, but I would've liked to have won here today."
The Brazilian driver placed fourth and clocked the fastest lap at this year's Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. He brings a proven track record to IndyCar racing. In 2004, he became the first driver in major auto racing history to finish every lap of every race for an entire season on his way to driving away with the 2004 IndyCar Series title. To date, he has captured 14 victories and 14 poles in addition to his championship run in 2004.
