Phoenix Contact and Mouser Electronics have teamed up to help give Tony Kanaan and his 2013 KV Racing Technology team a winning edge in the IZOD IndyCar® Series.
KV Racing Technology Technical Director Eric Cowdin, the head Race Engineer for Kanaan’s #11 IndyCar, and his engineering team depend on Phoenix Contact ferrules in harsh environments to ensure that crucial connections are made and maintained on the timing stand and other vital equipment. The timing stand features multiple computer monitors used by the engineers to track the car’s performance during time trials and the race. The performance of the monitoring equipment is critical to the success of the team. Its placement in the pit exposes the timing stand and its components to harsh-environment conditions, including high temperature and vibration, and exposure to dust, dirt and liquids. KV Racing Technology engineers trust ferrules from Phoenix Contact to withstand these extreme conditions.
Phoenix Contact joined as an official partner in Mouser’s IndyCar program last year. The Mouser racing program provides a high-tech platform to showcase the newest technologies and connect with industry’s leading automotive electronic design engineers and buyers. Mouser and Phoenix Contact’s support of the KV Racing Technology team has proved to be a winning partnership. Kanaan captured his first-ever Indianapolis 500 victory in May and continued his run of success with a third-place finish at the Firestone 550 at Texas Motor Speedway in June. The upcoming schedule for the KV Racing Technology team is highlighted by the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma on Aug. 25.
“Mouser is excited to not only support KV Racing Technology but to be the preferred source for meeting the racing team’s needs for connectors and other components,” said Krystal Jackson, Mouser’s Vice President of Interconnect. “Phoenix Contact is one of the leading manufacturers of interconnect products, so it is easy to see why racing engineers trust and depend on Phoenix Contact parts.”
