Mouser Electronics, Inc., a top global distributor for semiconductors and electronic components, today congratulates Tony Kanaan for his gutsy million-dollar effort in Sunday’s Pocono IndyCar 400.
Fans worldwide were pulling for Kanaan at Pocono. By virtue of his Indianapolis 500 victory, Kanaan was the only driver in the running for the $1 million Fuzzy’s Triple Crown bonus.
Kanaan's prospects of claiming the $1 million vanished on Lap 107 when he moved to overtake Scott Dixon's car for the lead on the inside entering Turn 1. The right-front wing of Kanaan’s car was damaged when it clipped the rear of Dixon’s car and Kanaan was ordered to the pits three laps later.
The contact damaged the wing to the point it started wiggling in the wind. Kanaan had the lead, but the KV Racing Technology team couldn’t leave him on the track with the car in that condition and co-owner Jimmy Vasser called him in to the pits.
The Triple Crown requires victories at Indy, Pocono and at the Auto Club Speedway at Fontana, California. It has not been done since Al Unser in 1978 and back then the prize was $10,000.
Kanaan, who finished 13th at Pocono, remains eligible to win the $250,000 bonus, given to the driver who wins two of the three designated races. That opportunity comes Oct. 19 at the Auto Club Speedway. Kanaan also is a strong contender for the IndyCar driving championship, having earned five top-10 finishes including three podium performances and the victory at Indy in the first 10 races of the 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series season. Kanaan now is 6th overall with 271 points.
“It was a very exciting race. Tony was fearless,” said Todd McAtee, Mouser Vice President of Business Development. “It’s great to be part of the KV racing team with Tony behind the wheel. The Mouser team is looking forward to watching Tony drive in the upcoming Streets of Toronto race.”
