Mouser Electronics and Chinese Driving Sensation, Ho-Pin Tung, Team Up to Make Racing History.

Much of the attention going into this year's Indy 500 is on young, talented Chinese driver, Ho-Pin Tung. Not only has he captured the attention of racing sponsors and fans alike with his fast test runs around the Brickyard's 2.5-mile oval. Tung also has the eyes of the world's most populous country – China – watching as he takes to the track of the centennial running of "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." However, Tung isn't new to the racing scene. So, who is this driver being touted as What's Next?

Tung is a Dutch-born, Chinese driver who has grown up within the European race circuit. He started his racing career in karts at age 14 and quickly moved up through the open-wheel ranks, doing most of his racing in Europe. In addition to winning the Asian Formula BMW championship in 2003, Tung won the German Formula 3 championship in 2006. He has a proven track record with more than 20 wins in various rear-engine formulas. Currently in his second year as a Formula 1 test driver for the Lotus Renault GP team, he has also helped develop the team's 2011 R31 car.

Although Tung has racing experience on European road courses, his first attempt at oval racing will come on an historic track known for its high speeds, tricky winds and tight, challenging corners. Tung tested an IndyCar at Sebring last fall for the FAZZT team, which became part of Sam Schmidt Motorsports. That, too, is a road course.

However, Mouser and his other supporters are confident heading into qualification. Glenn Smith, Mouser CEO and President (also a Spec Boxster race car driver), shared his thoughts on Ho-Pin's chances. "All of us were impressed by his GP and FormulaCar record and the amount of experience he has gained racing in Europe. Add to that the fact he has second fastest rookie orientation speed and Indy test runs of over 220mph, I see him racing for the checkered flag come race day."

Timing of the sponsorship is in conjunction with Mouser's global expansion efforts in revving up authorized semiconductors and electronic components distribution for design engineers and buyers in China and throughout Asia. The Mouser sponsored IndyCar provides the perfect vehicle to build-top-of-mind awareness for the company and its valued supplier suppliers as it looks to race ahead of their competition. Additionally, the IndyCar sponsorship represents Mouser's drive for high performance. Whether it is the company's rapid introduction of the most advanced, newest products for design, quick access and delivery, or responsive service and technical support, Mouser answers design engineers' need for speed – while providing a clear edge in product features and lifecycles by delivering What's Next.

Ho-Pin will be driving the lucky No. 8 Dallara/Honda/Firestone entry owned by Schmidt Dragon Racing sponsored by Mouser Electronics. Expect for Ho-Pin and Mouser to be in the fast lane come May 29. Just follow the blue streak on your T.V. And remember, you can find it here. Faster.
