Maxwell Boostcap® Ultracapacitor products employ an organic electrolyte, quaternary salt (tetraethylammonium tetraflouroborate) with an organic solvent (acetonitrile). The use of an organic electrolyte provides advantages over an aqueous electrolyte such as:
- Ability to be charged and discharged up to millions of times
- Much higher operating voltages
- Very low freezing point
- Virtually unlimited shelf life when stored in a discharged state
The organic solvent acetonitrile is classified as flammable and is subject to shipping restrictions in quantities as outlined in Maxwell Technology's document "Shipping information for transportation of Ultracapacitors".
Mouser Electronics is shipping these products to the Contiguous United States via UPS Ground only at this time due to shipping restrictions that apply to flammable product. Additional shipping charges will be assessed by UPS on these products at a minimum of $22.50 per box. Additional shipping time will also be incurred.
